We also watched a really cool YouTube clip that shows some chicks hatching out of their shell. So many questions came from this and we had a big talk about the difference of the eggs we eat and the eggs that the chicks hatch out of.

Pukeko life cycle
This week we have been learning about the life cycle of a pukeko (bird). We made some really cute life cycles out of paper and card.
We also watched a really cool YouTube clip that shows some chicks hatching out of their shell. So many questions came from this and we had a big talk about the difference of the eggs we eat and the eggs that the chicks hatch out of.

Term 3
Welcome back to Term 3! We have made a great start to the term with a super busy week. This term we welcome Cayden who turned 5 years old in the holidays and is now a part of our class.
This term for topic we are studying native New Zealand birds. We have made a cool class display that we will be adding information to each week (pop in and have a look as we update it each week).
Last term we also went on a trip the Kiwi house. Below are some photos of some of the birds that we saw:
We were also very lucky and got to see a tuatara and some green lizards!
Below is a picture of our feather cloak that we made for Matariki - we are pretty impressed with how it looks.
Today we have been exploring through play. We call this discovery time. This time helps us to build our communication skills and allows us the opportunity to use our imagination! Below are some photos of us building and constructing objects and machines.

Herbivores and Carnivores
Today Room 6 has been learning what a herbivore and carnivore is.
Hoani has learnt that a herbivore is a dinosaur that eats plants and it has flat teeth. Glaceous has learnt that herbivore walks on four legs and it eats plants.
Kaylee has learnt that is a dinosaur that has sharp teeth and walks on two feet with arms at the front.
Kalyx has learnt that both types of dinosaurs lived millions of years ago, both are dinosaurs and reptiles.
We made some really cool venn diagrams to show what we have learnt.

Measuring with lollies
This week in maths we have been learning how to measure things. We started the week by talking about shorter and taller, wider and thinner. Yesterday we started using the cubes to measure objects in the class and talk about how long things are. Today Whaea Katie thought it would be a good idea to do something fun and we used jet planes and jelly beans to measure lines.
Check out the photos below of us working with our buddies to uses the lollies to measure:

Paleontologists
Yesterday Room 6 had another go at being paleontologists. In groups of two they were given a frozen dinosaur and had to work together to uncover it.
Here is a video of what we did:

Today in maths we started looking at different shapes. We used these shapes to make pictures. Have a look at the shapes Glaceous, Quincey-Lee and Kaylee P made.
