Ant hunting

In Room 6 we have started studying ants. We went and explored the school and found some ants to look at. We looked at the ants under a magnifying glass and then drew what we noticed.

Chocolate Spider Webs

For our afternoon activity today we made chocolate spiders webs. Whaea Katie melted some chocolate which we poured into little bags. We then made the big part of the web out of pasta sticks. Next we cut a small slit in the corner of the bag and used this to swirl the chocolate to make a web. Finally we sprinkled 100s and 1000s over them. We learnt how and why it is important that spiders have webs.

We we had finished we got to eat the rest of the chocolate. YUM!!!

Once the chocolate had hardened we enjoyed our webs.

Ronald McDonald

Today we had Ronald McDonald come and surprised us. He taught us about road safety. We learnt that before we cross the road we have to stop, look and listen. We also learnt that every time we get in the car we have to make our seat belt click.

Healthy eatting

Today we had Kathrine in from Sport Waikato. She came in to talk about the different food groups and how each one is important in keeping us all healthy.

Vehicles/transport

Over the last two weeks Ruma Ono has been learning about vehicles. We started off by talking about different vehicles. Whaea Katie was away for a couple of days so we had Whaea Cat and made a book with her about 'What is a vehicle?'

We then start to look at new and old vehicles. Whaea Katie gave us a picture each and we had to decide if it was an old vehicle or a new one. We compared them and came up with a list that said what was the same and what was different.

To finish off our inquiry we started looking a bit closer at some vehicles we talked about the different parts and then had to label our own.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

Today was our second lesson with Constable Irwin. Last week we talked about how important it is to know our phone number and address especially if we get lost. There is only 1 person in out class who knows both. Please make sure your child knows these before the end of the term.

Today we were looking at body parts and the correct names for them. We had to help label the girl and the boy.

Read to Self

Today Room 6 had a refresher lesson in how we are suppose to do when we are reading to ourself. Here is what we cam up with:
