Motion

This week in Room 6 we have been learning about the way things move:

  • fast
  • slow
  • gently
  • lightly
  • carefully
We were lucky to be able to get a parachute from Energize (Sports Waikato) and we had a go at trying to move the parachute in these different ways.

Diwali

Today in Room 6 we have been learning about Diwali (the Indian New Year). We made salt dough candles (these aren't complete - will post a photo on Tuesday), coloured rangoli patterns and interviewed some of our Indian friends. Check out the photos below.

Some of our interview questions that we asked Jasmine, Jessica and Jaspreet:

Why do you Diwali?
Because it is to celebrate the Indian New Year.

What kind of food do you eat?
Lots of flat bread and we have some special curries.

Do you go anywhere?
We mainly stay at home but sometimes we visit the temple. Or we go and visit other Indian families.

Why do you make rangoli patterns?
To welcome visitors that come to our home

Matua, Unique, Lilly and Quincey-Lee make a tower!

Check out what these guys made during discovery time.

Athletics

This week Room 6 went out and practiced our high jump. We also had Whaea Katherine visit on Thursday and she did discus with us. We will be practicing each activity until athletics day.

Sinking and floating

This week we have been looking at sinking and floating. On Wednesday, Whaea Katie gave us lots of different objects. We had to predict if they were going to sink or float.
Once we had guessed then we had to try out each thing. It was interesting to see that a rubber band floats first and then it sunk.

Solid, gas, liquid

This week we were looking at a solid, gas and liquid. We had three balloons which each had a solid (ice), liquid (water) and a gas (air) in them.

We had to decide which was heaviest and lightest. Once we had done that we we decided on some other types of solids, liquids and gases that we know.
